Impact & Values

Over the past 20 years, Cycling BC’s grassroots cycling programs have used various innovative designs to get people on bikes, from pop-in visits to school assemblies and free community rides.

In 2013, we formalized our program design and offered biking in elementary school gym classes to help make cycling as accessible as possible. Initially designed as a basic skills curriculum, our program quickly grew into an opportunity to role-model how we can all be better cyclists. From 2013 to 2021, our iRide program visited over 65,000 young British Columbians.

In 2021, we shared our instructor training and physical literacy curriculum with all Canadians under Cycling Canada’s HopOn brand. InĀ 2022, we adopted the national brand, renaming our program from iRide to HopOn. As of December 1, 2023, our program has visited 75,000 British Columbians.

Our transition to nationwide programming marks the culmination of a project that involves over 400 school champions, 100 instructors, and a small handful of dedicated investors, donors, and sponsors who believed in the power of cycling from day one. We wish to showcase their story here in honour of those who made it all possible.

Thank you for believing in us and the power of cycling!
