If you are interested in a career in either physical education, teaching, kinesiology, or cycling, starting out as an HopOn Instructor is a great way to learn how to:

  • Connect with young people quickly
  • Create fun and effective learning environments
  • Prepare and facilitate a physical education activity

Each year, HopOn trains over 40 new instructors to work with over 6,000 young people each year in British Columbia through in-school, after-school and summer camp programs.

  • Upcoming Work Opportunities

    Cycling BC’s HopOn program is currently seeking candidates for the following positions:

    2 instructors (Mon-Fri)

    Back-Up Team: We also seek to develop a cohort of backup instructors in each community for contingencies. Backup instructors may range from club cyclists, parents, and cycling enthusiasts who can be available to fill in for 1 day between May and August, and can access the HopOn Instructor training at discounted rates.

    COOP Positions: Cycling BC works with a local university co-op program in some areas to create a 3-4 month work term. Job descriptions and applications are announced in January and February.

  • Instructor Training

    All HopOn instructors undergo training with the National Coaches Certification Program and HopOn Orientation before working with children. Once hired, instructors participate in the NCCP Community Coach training program, including on-demand, zoom and in-person modules. HopOn Instructor Training involves an eLearning module and an in-person orientation.

  • Application Requirements

    In-School Instructor Requirements:

    • Lead Instructor (+21), Assistants (+18)
    • All instructors must register and agree to the following:
      • Cycling BC Membership ($104)
      • Background Screening
      • NCCP Community Coach Training
      • HopOn Instructor Training
      • In-Season Tuesday Night Call (30 minutes in May-August)
      • Submit a post-season report

    After-School Instructor Requirements:

    • Must be 19 or older to apply for a grant* (view coach age matrix)
    • Must be 16+ to assist
    • All instructors must register and agree to the following:
      • Cycling BC Membership ($104)
      • Background Screening
      • NCCP Community Coach Training
      • HopOn Instructor Training
      • Attend at least 6 sessions in the first calendar year
      • Submit a post-season report (required to get paid)
