If you are interested in a career in either physical education, teaching, kinesiology, or cycling, starting out as an HopOn Instructor is a great way to learn how to:

  • Connect with young people quickly
  • Create fun and effective learning environments
  • Prepare and facilitate a physical education activity

Each year, HopOn trains over 40 new instructors to work with over 6,000 young people each year in British Columbia through in-school, after-school and summer camp programs.

  • Instructor Training

    All HopOn instructors undergo training with the National Coaches Certification Program and HopOn Orientation before working with children, including:

    • Background Check
    • SafeSport eLearning…………. 60 minutes on-demand
    • Coach Initiation in Sport… 45 minutes on-demand
    • HopOn eLearning………………………. 4 hours on-demand
    • HopOn Orientation……… 1-2 days outside in-person

  • Application Requirements

    In-School Instructor Requirements:

    • Lead Instructor (+21)
    • Assistants (+18)
    • Submit a post-season reflection

    After-School Instructor Requirements:

    • Must be 19 or older to apply for a grant* (view coach age matrix)
    • Must be 16+ to assist
    • Submit a post-season report with photos and reflection
