HopOn KGMS: 2022 Recap

Cycling BC’s HopOn program wishes to say a BIG THANK YOU to Piers Samson, a school teacher and counsellor from Kenneth Gordon Maplewood School.

This past spring, HopOn manager Ben Chaddock teamed up with parents from KGMS and Piers to offer the HopOn North Vancouver program, designed for local students who learn best by doing!

Piers messaged me in February and we were able to get the new program up and running really quickly. We wished to help local students build skills and confidence on their bike, and then explore local trails when they were ready.

Helping create meaningful opportunities for the children to pedal with their parents, and overcome challenges together was so special. Starting each week with this Monday group ride helped start everyone on the right foot for the days ahead.  – Ben Chaddock

The program welcomed KGMS students and youth aged 12-16 from neighbouring schools to develop their abilities and grow from HopOn Level 4 to level 5 and beyond.

Thank you so much Ben for all you did for our school and for me in particular.

It was a wonderful experience to have you coach all of us and I really appreciated the training experience. Personally, I thank you so much for your kind and generous contribution to our school life. The students of a school that participated all talked about their experience during the school days and really look forward to each week of cycling. The parents that were involved appreciated being able to participate with their children.

All the best in your summer exploits and I look forward to working with Cycling BC in 2023!

Cycling BC is currently in talks with Piers to expand our partnership in 2023. Stay tuned to our HopOn After-School page for more information early in the year.
