Physical and Health Education Canada (PHE Canada) recently announced new Sport Canada funding to increase the physical activity of K-12/CEGÉP students across Canada. The new Access to Action Granting Program provides between $500 and $20,000 to schools to create and support new sports and physical activity opportunities before, during and after school hours.
“Today’s announcement reinforces our commitment to building stronger and healthier communities. Sport plays an important role in building self-esteem and leadership skills, which allow people to grow and thrive physically, emotionally and socially. It should be accessible to everyone and become the basis for our children, who all deserve the opportunity to participate in sport and physical activity.”
– The Honourable Pascale St-Onge, Minister of Sport and Minister responsible for the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec
Cycling BC has confirmed with Physical and Health Education Canada that British Columbian schools wishing to host a HopOn 3-day school program or train teachers to facilitate a 6-week after-school bike club may apply for an Access to Action grant. In fact, Cycling BC can apply for the grant on your school’s behalf, reducing administrative loads on applicant schools.
Funding is available as early as November. Individual schools and districts are encouraged to apply as soon as possible to ensure students feel the benefits throughout the 2022-2023 school year.
