iRide/HopOn visit @ Richmond

iRide returns to Quilchena Elementary (Richmond) .

In partnership with Cycling Canada, Cycling BC’s iRide program has been adopted across the country under the name ‘HopOn Canada’ to help more children get on bikes and help instructors start their leadership journey with helpful training tools.

To support the expansion of the program in 2022, Cycling BC hosted a free in-school program for one of our long-time partners, Quilchena Elementary in Richmond, BC.  On October 5-7, 2021, Quilchena students participated in their 4th iRide program since 2015 and welcomed Cycling Canada’s National Grassroots Coordinator, Jen Milligan, to co-instruct the program over three days.

“This week was extraordinary. We had the whole team out. Not only was it great to help Cycling Canada understand what this program looks and sounds like at school but we invited former coaches and our office staff to lend a hand. As a result, we captured numerous videos that will be used as a training tool  to help us strengthen our instructor training program.” – Ben Chaddock, iRide Manager.

The instructors taught the kids straight-line riding, cornering, and riding in a group during the three-day visit and challenged the kids to take on  the big teeter-totter stunt feature on the final day.
