HopOn BVC Shuttle – Try Indoor Track Cycling

Cycling BC’s HopOn program is dedicated to breaking barriers to cycling sport.

This autumn, Cycling BC and the Burnaby Velodrome Club is partnering with local schools to introduce students from Burnaby, Port Moody, Coquitlam, and New Westminster to the thrill of indoor track cycling at the velodrome.

This program is for confident bike riders between 10-16 years old (Level 5 and beyond) who want to learn how to ride a fixed-gear bike, safely navigate banked turns, and build enough strength to ride along the blue line and the rail of an indoor cycling track. Students also work together to learn how to ride the stationary rollers and understand group riding etiquette on the velodrome, building spatial awareness and consideration for fellow participants.

Each session includes a fundamental velodrome skill that helps the riders prepare to ride the velodrome safely and skillfully. Our instructor team abides by Cycling BC’s youth club instructor standards and carries background screenings, ethics training, and NCCP certification in velodrome cycling.

This skills-focused program includes rental bikes, helmets, and instruction from NCCP Club-Trained Instructors.

Cycling BC after-school shuttle to the velodrome: Cycling BC has space for 14 passengers in our van and can coordinate an after-school pickup at your child’s school to take them to the velodrome. Please specify during registration if you require pickup at your child’s school. Cycling BC will transport the participants to the velodrome in time to be prepared for our 4:30 pm-6:00 pm session on the track. Parents pick up children at the velodrome between 6:05 pm-6:15 pm and are welcome to visit earlier and watch the session from the spectator area. Children who do not require Cycling BC transport to the velodrome can meet us at 4:15 pm at the velodrome.

Participants of this program will become Cycling BC HopOn Members through the registration process and receive liability and sports accident coverage during HopOn activities through the remainder of the calendar year. They also become Burnaby Velodrome Club members and will have the option to attend other youth sessions at the velodrome, including Wednesday and Friday fitness-focused sessions.
