iRide @ Terrace

Introducing Good Foot Cycling in Terrace.

This year, Cycling BC helped six new instructors from Terrace, BC, create Good Foot Cycling and run iRide after-school programs in their community.

“Nicole’s team was by far our most ambitious new group this year. In total, their group offered ten programs in the community from May to October and helped over 55 children build confidence on their bikes” – Ben Chaddock, iRide Manager.

Nicole and her team including Simone, Greg, Katherine, Ezralynn, and Loryn demonstrated their dedication to the program right from the start by travelling to Quesnel, BC, for their in-person training, along with new instructors from Quesnel.

Their programs in Terrace included weekly after-school programs and special daily summer programs.  Nicole’s team recalls  many teachable moments along the way including a few flat tire lessons too.

“The kids enjoyed playing Bats and Cats, Red Light Green Light and Elimination circle” – Nicole Pachel, iRide After-School lead instructor.

Good Foot offered the program to a wide range of ages and the older and more skilled riders moved beyond the grass practice areas and hit the trails. They worked on body position, brake modulation, smooth gear changes, and front-wheel lifts which helped the riders enjoy the local TORCA trails.

“The riders were able to apply the skills learned in the field/parking lot to the trail,” explains Simone, one of Good Foot’s lead instructors., shared how “I remember stopping on the trail at one point to help spot the riders over a small log that required a front-wheel lift. All of the riders were able to overcome the obstacle and build their confidence.”

The iRide After-School program will resume next spring. Program details and registration will open in early February and on an ongoing basis throughout the year.
