SUMMARY:iRide Leadership Program 2020
DESCRIPTION:iRide Leadership Program – Co-ed (8 spots)  \nDo you want to improve your leadership abilities\, master advanced biking skills\, and learn how to teach cycling to various ages? \nThis multi-week summer program is designed for experienced bike riders who are seeking an opportunity to accumulate leadership and coaching skills that help them pursue volunteer or work opportunities in their cycling community.  If you are looking for an opportunity to grow and make an impact\, sign up today and start your journey in cycling coaching and leadership. \nNow in its 3rd year\, our 2020 Leadership Program will take advantage of brand-new modules made available for the NCCP Community pathway to include online on-demand and online-facilitated learning throughout August. The program will then meet in Squamish for a 5-day camp with practice teaching and daily mountain bike rides on local blue trails. The program’s capstone project will be a filming day in partnership with Cycling Canada’s HopOn Canada program. \nThis program will be facilitated and led by Cycling BC’s Head of Coach Development and iRide Manager\, Ben Chaddock\, and supported by professional and local Mountain Bike Instructors\, including Dialed in Cycling’s owner Dan Libman\, and School District 43 elementary school teacher and iRide After-School instructor\, Rebecca Cohen. \nAfter completing the iRide Leadership Program\, participants will be ready to coach kids under 11 in a community or school setting\, with the supervision or oversite by an adult Cycling BC member (see Coach FAQ for age matrix). \nThe program is valued at $1000 and available to Cycling BC Members for $700. \nThanks to our generous donors and sponsors\, financial support is available to families that can demonstrate a need. To apply\, please submit a cover letter to iRide@cyclingbc.net\, explaining why you wish to participate in the program and include 2 references from your local cycling community. \nAdditional support is available for Cycling BC members through KidSport\, to a maximum of $400 annually per family (Apply for Assistance). \n  \nRequirements: \nThe camp is open to riders age 14-19 who are comfortable with the following skills: \n\nriding up a steep hill for 20 minutes and exercising for 120 minutes\nlift the front wheel and ride off a jump/bump smoothly\ncomfortable riding blue-rated Mtn. bike trails\n\nAll participants must hold either a 2020 Cycling BC membership ($65) or an iRide Mini-Membership ($15) as this will provide sports accident and liability coverage for the participants during the camp.  All sessions are covered by Cycling BC’s insurance policy with Jones Brown \n  \nProgram Details: \nOur Aug 4-13 Zoom calls will be used to build camaraderie and support participants as they move through the on-demand NCCP modules. We will also use Zoom to cover the Practice Planning module from Aug 18-27. Participants should expect 1-2 hours of assigned homework between each call. \nThe Aug 31-Sept 4 Squamish camp will include a daily bike ride of 2-3 hours and 2-3 hours of practice coaching\, as per the illustrated table below. Learn more about the NCCP Community Coach training program on Cycling BC’s coaching section. \n \n  \nImportant Notes: \n\nParticipants requiring billet families in Squamish\, and/or transportation from BC Ferries to attend this camp\, please contact iRide to explore possibilities.\nIf you are a Squamish resident and are interested in hosting a billet\, please let us know.\nIf the British Columbia Health Authority allows a shift to Phase 3 guidelines\, we may be able to extend the number of participants.\nTo run\, this program requires a minimum of 4 registered participants by August 1st.\nDuring registration\, the cost per person will be $685.\n\nThe Cycling Foundations module is $15 and it is easiest if the payment is completed directly through Cycling Canada. Participants will be prompted to do this following our August 4th zoom call.\n\n\n\n  \nGetting Registered\n\nSTEP 1 – REGISTER HERE ($685 fee) – select from “Camps” dropdown menu\nSTEP 2 – Include either a Cycling BC Mini-Membership ($15) or a Full-Membership ($65)\n\nParticipants will receive a welcome email on August 1 with information about joining our 1st Zoom call.  For more information\, please review iRide’s Frequently Asked Questions or send us a message. \n  \nPartners\nThis camp is made possible by the District of Squamish Parks & Recreation Department who are providing us with a grass area for practice and Velofix who will be dropping by during the week to run a short bike maintenance session. \nIf you are a philanthropist and seeking an opportunity to sponsor a rider’s participation in the program\, please contact us as we have the capacity to process a tax receipt. \n

SUMMARY:iRide School: Quilchena
DESCRIPTION:A 3-day event for grade 4+\, the iRide in-school program is designed to teach basic cycling skills and safety awareness to students during gym class. Each class receives three 45-60 minute training sessions over three days with the goal of all children achieving skill level 3.  Bicycles and helmets are provided for students\, however\, it is recommended that they bring their own. \nOur curriculum is recognized by the BC Ministry of Education’s Prescribed Learning Outcomes and targets students in grades 4 to 6. SUMMARY:iRide School: Cedar Elementary
DESCRIPTION:A 3-day event for grade 4+\, the iRide in-school program is designed to teach basic cycling skills and safety awareness to students during gym class. Each class receives three 45-60 minute training sessions over three days with the goal of all children achieving skill level 3.  Bicycles and helmets are provided for students\, however\, it is recommended that they bring their own. \nOur curriculum is recognized by the BC Ministry of Education’s Prescribed Learning Outcomes and targets students in grades 4 to 6. I’m Ashton Sweetnam\, and this season\, my team of iRide Instructors and I are starting a new iRide After-School program in Chase\, BC.  Our program aims to help young riders learn new skills\, build confidence\, make friends\, and appreciate the challenges of outdoor exercise. \nOur 2021 spring program\, Chase Mtn. Bike Program presented by iRide will be 6-weeks long and is designed for ages 6-12\, skill level 4-5.  Each session includes a few skills\, a game\, and a bike ride at Haldane Elementary. Participants will need to bring a mountain bike (or a kid’s bike with gears)\, a helmet\, and of course\, their STOKE! \nAs recipients of an iRide Development Grant\, our instructors have registered with Cycling BC\, undergone NCCP-training\, and completed a background screening. In addition\, all sessions are covered by Cycling BC’s insurance policy with Gallagher and permitted by school district 73. \nIn addition\, local grant funding has helped cover the instructor training costs and subsidize participant registration fees.  This means that our program’s very first offering\, from May 3 to June 14th\, will be FREE. After that\, participants will be required to register online and purchase a Mini-Membership (included in the registration process).
