DESCRIPTION:HopOn Velodrome p/b Cycling BC & Burnaby Velodrome Club\nThis autumn\, Cycling BC and the Burnaby Velodrome Club is partnering with local schools to help transport and introduce students from Burnaby\, Port Moody\, Coquitlam\, and New Westminster to the thrill of velodrome cycling. \nThis program is for confident bike riders (Level 5 and beyond) who wish to learn to pedal a fixed-gear bike\, safely navigate the banked turns\, and build enough strength to ride along the blue line and the rail. This skills-focused session provided rental bikes\, helmets\, and NCCP Club-Trained Instructors. Students also work together to learn to ride the stationary rollers and understand group riding etiquette on the velodrome\, building spatial awareness and consideration for fellow participants. As a result of this 3-week program\, students may be invited to attend other youth sessions\, including Wednesday and Friday fitness-focused sessions. \nThere are 14 spots in our Cycling BC transportation van\, and we are partnering with schools to coordinate an after-school pickup at your child’s school. Please specify during registration if you require pickup at your child’s school. Cycling BC will transport the participants to the velodrome in time to be prepared for our 4:30 pm-6:00 pm session on the track. Parents pick up children at the velodrome between 6:05 pm-6:15 pm and are welcome to visit earlier and watch the session from the spectator area. \nChildren who do not require transportation can also attend the velodrome session\, meeting us at 4:15 pm at the velodrome. There are a total of 20 spots available for the velodrome session. \nEach session includes a fundamental velodrome skill that helps the riders prepare to ride the velodrome safely and skillfully. Our instructor team abides by Cycling BC’s youth club instructor standards and carries background screenings\, ethics training\, and NCCP certification in velodrome cycling. In addition\, participants become Cycling BC HopOn Members through the registration process and receive liability and sports accident coverage during HopOn activities through the remainder of the calendar year. DESCRIPTION:HopOn Bike Camp\, in partnership with the City of Coquitlam\n \nMeet new friends\, improve your biking skills\, and have fun this spring break with Cycling BC’s HopOn program. Each day includes skill development\, games\, and a bike ride in the area. Open to ages 8-12\, Skill Level 2-4. \nBikes and helmets are available for rent if requested during registration. Bicycle storage during the week is also available. Participants may add the purchase of our HopOn T-shirt\, certificate and sticker kit during registration. SUMMARY:HopOn School: Kinnikinnick Elementary
DESCRIPTION:A 3-day event for grade 4+\, the HopOn in-school program (formerly iRide) helps students learn basic cycling skills and safety awareness during gym class. Each class receives three 45-60 minute training sessions over three days with the goal of all children achieving skill level 3. In addition\, we provide bicycles and helmets for children between 4′ to 5’5″ feet tall at no additional charge. \nOur curriculum matches the BC Ministry of Education’s Prescribed Learning Outcomes and targets students in grades 4 to 6. We teach on all-weather fields\, grass fields\, and paved areas. The program helps students who already know how to pedal on their own.
